I have a number of tree paper-cutting covered books. The tree image plays around with the positive-negative. I’m working on the concept of the visual balancing of positive/negative, light/dark, and working toward achieving some images which achieve NOTAN. These trees have not reached that perfect notan balance, but I think they’re still compelling images.

These are large, all about 10″ x 8″. They are filled with drawing paper, sketch paper, and some have pastel papers. Each tree is unique, though they all share the same basic pattern.

The stencils can be mounted atop a marbled background, or on a piece of handmade paper. (Paper and marbling by me.)
